Designer Flannel – Crocheted Edge Baby Blanket Tutorial

Hello! It’s Kristina Brinkerhoff from Center Street Quilts and I’m here to share with you a sweet little project I made with the Bears on Bikes print from the Designer Flannel collection. First of all, if you haven’t tried Riley Blake flannel, you are missing out! It is super soft and the designs are fresh and fun. I fell in love with these delightful bears and knew that, paired with Riley Blake Gingham Flannel in Sweet Mint, they would make a perfect crocheted edge baby blanket. And because I loved this project so much, I created a full tutorial on my blog HERE with everything you need to know about crocheting around the edge of your own favorite Riley Blake flannel print! Yay!

Using Lori Holt’s Chunky Thread in Sweet Mint was an easy choice for the crocheted edge! I love that the colors match across the Riley Blake products, so I knew choosing Sweet Mint thread would match the Sweet Mint Gingham Flannel perfectly.

After basting the flannel with safety pins, I hemstitched the edge for crocheting. Did you know that you can use a hemstitch needle (like this one HERE) to easily prep the edge for crocheting? Again, I have all the details on my blog HERE, but a hemstitch needle is a super neat tool if you enjoy making these crocheted edge blankets!

Once the hemstitching was complete, I crocheted a sweet scallop along the edge of the flannel (the crochet stitches I used are in my tutorial). I absolutely love the weight of Lori Holt’s Chunky Thread and it definitely adds a nice texture to the blanket.

The Bears on Bike Designer Flannel print, along with lots of other darling designs, are available in shops and online now. These flannels are perfect to pick up for a quick baby gift or two!

Happy stitching!
