DIY Baby Gift – How to Sew Baby Bibs in 4 sizes

If you are looking for a Baby Shower Gift, new baby gift or “just because” gift – bibs are always an easy and appreciated option.

We have a new addition to our family and both his dad and grandpa are golfers so my Golf Days fabric couldn’t have come out at a better time!

I created free bib patterns in 4 sizes: newborn, 3-6 months, 6-12 months and 1-4 years and couldn’t resist making a printable gift tag if you decide to make a set with a golf theme too.

🎯 SHORTCUTS TO SPECIFIC TOPICS:

03:55 Kitchen Towels for bib back

Bibs can be made from the fabric of your choice – that’s the beauty of sewing! Avoid fabrics that are too thick or stiff, especially for the smaller bibs.

You can use a single fabric in a plain color or with a print for the front or you can piece fabrics together, add applique – how simple or fancy you get is up to you. You can also add a layer of waterproof fabric inside to prevent the bib from getting soiled on both sides.

Personally, I love making bibs with cotton fabrics on the front and kitchen / terry towels on the back to make them extra absorbent. (I use the term “Terry Towel” to mean any absorbent fabric used for the back of the bib.)

I buy kitchen towels at places like Target or Home Goods and then use them for the back of my bibs. You can use “bar mop” size for the Newborn and 3 – 6 month bibs as well. I don’t recommend bath towels as they are thicker and overly bulky, especially for the smaller size
bibs.
