Earth Day – Sewing Projects

Today is Earth Day! Earth Day is an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Everyone can do something small each day to show some love to our earth. You can even combine that effort with your sewing hobby! Looking to reduce your use of single use plastic? Skip the plastic bag and bring a reusable (handmade) tote to the market! Ready to ditch the cotton rounds for your skincare routine? Say hello to the cotton reusable version!

Today we are sharing a few projects that are fun to make and are eco-friendly. First up, this darling Eco Snack Bag DIY from Minki Kim!

When I first saw this project I knew it was the perfect bag to tote snacks to the park and for playdates with my toddler. I love the bunny ears tie and the interior looked extra roomy. Minki Kim has a step-by-step video tutorial to help you make this project and has a free printable template to go along with it!

Last year for my daughters first birthday I made her this “One in a Melon” mini quilt. I chose RBD Basics in Blossom and Gingham to match the mini for this project.

This pattern does not require a huge amount of fabric and would totally work for larger scraps! Get creative and use up the fabric you already have if you can.

This Eco Snack Bag is perfect for on the go because it really can hold a lot of food and it is totally washable should anything spill.

We had so much fun on our backyard picnic with this Snack Bag. Click here for the full tutorial by Minki Kim!

Sew Green

Our friends at American Patchwork & Quilting have a new video out that will teach you how to make cloth napkins and reusable makeup remover rounds! These projects are both beginner friendly and a great way to celebrate Earth Day!

DIY Food Wraps

The last project for our Earth Day feature gets a lot of use at my house and is a great gift to give!

Beeswax Food Wraps

Make your own reusable beeswax wraps with your favorite fabrics! These are fun to make and are perfect to use at home or give as a gift.

Thanks for joining us! We wish you all a very happy Earth Day!
