Easy Patriotic Picnic Quilt with Link to FREE Pattern

It’s that time of year! School is getting out and summer is in the air! Get ready for summertime picnics and celebrations with this quick and easy Patriotic Picnic Quilt.

This fun quilt features fabrics from Doodlebug Designs’ newest fabric collection, Patriotic Picnic.

The quilt pattern is a FREE downloadable PDF available HERE. Many thanks to Andy at A Bright Corner for sharing this pattern!

I wanted to show off each of the fun, bright, cheerful designs in Patriotic Picnic, and Andy’s quilt pattern does just that.

Each print is divided by crisp, white sashing, which really allows each design to pop!

Aren’t those little picnic ants adorable? I’m not a fan of real ants invading my picnic, but I can certainly appreciate a fabric ant invasion!

For the quilt back, I used Riley Blake Designs Gray Swiss Dot. I love using the Swiss Dots on my quilt backs because they compliment just about every fabric genre out there. I have used Swiss Dots to back traditional quilts, modern quilts, and everything in between!

I used Riley Blake Designs Black 1/4” Gingham for the binding. Again, the Ginghams are one of my absolute favorites for bindings and quilt backs because they compliment without overpowering the main quilt design.

I used my machine to free-motion quilt an all-over loopy design. Don’t be afraid to try your hand at this simple free-motion quilting technique. You can find some great tutorials online. Start with a piece of scrap fabric to test your machine, then go for it! You really can’t mess this up.
