Shaded Trail Quilt Using The Basics

Hi. Hi. Elisabeth DeMoo here of Brown Bird Designs. I am so happy to be here showing you my latest make. This is something I have been working on for the Fat Quarters Shops’ Vintage and Classic Series where they take a traditional block and give it a modern twist. The perfect quilt for today’s Make It Modern feature. Don’t you just love the design?? They call it the Shaded Trail Quilt and I love that it looks like a garden lattice. The pallet I choose is made up of grays and pinks, so lush and peaceful. I used my favorite RBD Basic Fabric, Blossom. Christopher Thommson is the mastermind behind the colors and design. It’s a fabric I keep coming back to. I have used it as background fabric, a backing fabric and more. I just love the tiny flowers!!

The shade trail quilt hanging on my bedroom wall. A chair with a hat is in front of wall. There is alos a large plant to the side of the photo.

Making the block was so simple. Half of the block is based on a Half Square Triangle (HST), one of my favorite things to make. I like to trim a HST with a blocLoc which makes incredibly easy. The great thing about the blocloc ruler is that it has a reverse bevel, or a groove that allows the ruler to slide on the seam. Sew cool right?? Here is an example of my set up and how I use it.

If you would like to make the Shaded Trail Quilt like this one here is what you need to know.

The pattern is coming soon and will be available by clicking here. The available sizes are just the block (which will be free) or they offer the full pattern which includes instructions for a crib, lap, twin, and queen size quilt. So many options. This is the crib size quilt. I was so happy to be able to finish it in a few days.

I am giving away a small bundle of fabrics that you could use to make this crib size quilt. For the fabric bundle there will be 4 extra large fat quarters of pinks, 2/3 yard of Lipstick, 6/8 yard of Moss, 7/8 yard of gray and 7/8 of gray on gray. To enter, hop over to my blog and comment on the blog post about this quilt. Good luck!!

For the backing I picked out another fabric from Christopher Thompson which has a navy-blue background with pink and peach flowers. This fabric, as well as the strip fabric I used for the binding, is from his Saturday in Paris fabric line. So good!! For the quilting I used my Bernina BSR foot on my 440 Bernina. I just love how it turned out. It has some fun texture.

This is my bernina 440 sewing machine. Here I am quilting the crib side quilt.

I hope you had fun swooning over this quilt with me. Have a wonderful week and don’t forget to enter into my giveaway. Happy Quilting!

Cheers to another finish.

I took this photo of the shade trail quilt with a children's book on top of it. The book as an alligator in it and that is design I used to quilt the quilt, I tried to make it look like alligator scales.

Here is the folded quilt. It shows a close up of the fabric and the quilted stitches.
