Today’s Traditional Block Thursday is the Dutchman’s Puzzle Block. I LOVE the look of this block! It is eye-catching, has lots of movement to it, and best of all – it is easy to put together!
I started out by mimicking Bonnie’s block, using two tones of yellow with white “sky.”
I used: Sunshine, Daffodil, and Clean White.
The effect is bright & sunny. I like the fact that you can focus on the darker yellow and see a pinwheel, or you can focus on the pairs of triangles, which look a bit like arrows, or of course, flying geese.
After looking at Bonnie’s virtual images at the end of her post, I decided to try using a different color for the inside ‘sky’ pieces.
I used: Seafoam, Navy, Daisy and Clean White
Adding that extra bit of color brought a whole new dimension to the block, giving the illusion of a pinwheel-within-a-pinwheel.
This is a great beginner block. It was quick and easy to sew, I found the corners lined up pretty nicely, and the finished result looks fantastic!
