Isn’t this fabric just the cutest?!? I’m in love with the Pixie Noel fabric collection by Tasha Noel for Riley Blake Designs. I always adore all of Tasha’s designs, but this one just has my heart with all these sweet winter and Christmas illustrations. When I was asked to create something with this fabric line, I didn’t even have to think twice about what it would be! My Georgia Vintage Dress pattern is my favorite pattern that I have ever created. I love the fit, the way it can be customized, the ability to use many different patterned fabrics and all the little details that you can choose to include or not depending on your skill level. So this Pixie Noel Georgia Vintage Dress was created for my little Josephine. She will be 2 in October and it feels so great to already have her Christmas dress ready to go. She is going to look so precious in this dress. I’ll probably add a little petti-skirt underneath for added poof and vintage style. She is wearing 18 month right now, but I know by Christmas this dress is going to fit her perfectly! I chose more of the red and green prints from the line since I do prefer a more traditional look for Christmas, but I think the aqua touches here and there are just right for a hint of modern.
Is there anything sweeter than a peter-pan collar on a little girl? I don’t think so! You know me……the more feminine the better! I like to create the
Georgia dress with the collar for the younger girl and leave it off when they get a little bit older. My 8 year old prefers a more simplistic look these days. I had a really fun red micro-gingham piping in my stash that I used in the collar. I like the contrast with the red and the aqua blue. I also fussy cut the bib of the bodice so that those two girls caroling were front and center.
I just think they are so precious.
I added piping to the top of the center sash to tie in the piping used on the collar. I also had this red and white eyelet that I picked up at a local thrift store. When I found this (for just pennies), I knew it would come in handy sometime, so I added it to my stash. Once I received
Pixie Noel in the mail…….I started mixing and matching trims and this one was perfect. I’m not a big proponent of having lots of ‘stuff’ around my house, but when it comes to sewing that is a different story. I think it’s important to buy things that you love so that you have many different fabrics, trims and buttons to work with when creating. If you don’t have those different items in your studio to play with, it’s going to be very difficult to come up with something that looks cohesive and one-of-a-kind. So the next time you’re going back and forth…….should I buy this, should I not……..if it’s fabric, trim or buttons…….go for it! You can tell who ever you have to answer to that ‘The Cottage Mama made me do it!’. Besides, you deserve it!
So here is Miss Josephine’s completed Christmas Dress. I used some aqua gingham picot edge double-fold bias trim that I had in my studio or encase the bottom edge of the dress (it was actually leftover trim I included in my first
Bundle Box that I offered a couple months ago). I’m all about balance when creating a dress and I needed to pull the aqua from the top of the dress down into the bottom and I think this trim balances out the dress nicely. I reduced the length of both skirts since I was using the bias binding and not doing a full 1″ hem like is instructed in the pattern. The back of the dress ties with a big aqua bow.
I can’t wait to see this on little JoJo. She is going to be the cutest little Christmas toddler around!
