I’m Lauren Wright from Molly and Mama, and I’m excited to be sharing a festive project with you this month! Winter has definitely arrived in Australia so it’s the perfect time to be sewing with the new Adel in Winter collection from Sandy Gervais. Sandy explained that this collection was inspired by Christmas eves spent at her Grandparents’ house.
Because our Christmas falls in Summer, many of us in the Southern Hemisphere love to celebrate Christmas in July, so we can really enjoy a traditional Christmas meal with all the trimmings! I don’t tend to use too many Christmas decorations at this time, but I do love to always set a traditional table with some beautiful festive additions. I thought a wintery themed version of my Tilly’s Tea Party Table Runner would complement my Christmas table decor perfectly. And not only that, I can reuse the table runner in December too.
The table runner pattern used for this project features three identical English paper pieced blocks which are perfect for fussy cutting! The original pattern includes hand embroidery in the centre hexagons. I also made a Valentine’s version which you can read about on the blog.
But for this version, I selected just a handful of the 30+ prints in this collection. I was really drawn to the reds, greens and creams.
I fussy cut the large centre hexagons to show off the poinsettias from the main print. The pine sprigs, mini poinsettias, ditsy dots and the plaid all worked perfectly in the EPP panels.
And I loved the snowflakes for the borders and backing.
Here’s some close up of the blocks. I was so pleased to have some holly and snowflake flowers in the garden to assist with my photography!
If you’d like to make your own table runner, you can find the beginner friendly, instant download, sewing pattern in the Molly and Mama store.
And if you’d like to use Adel in Winter for your version, here’s a view of the entire collection. There are so many ways to mix and match these prints.
The Adel in Winter collection also includes a festive cheater print, a wide back print of holly sprigs and snowflakes and a lovely fruit jar floral arrangement panel. You can see them HERE.
