Hi everyone! It’s Kari from That’s Sew Kari. Today, I’m stopping in with a project my girls have been begging me for forever… They wanted new aprons and of course, with new aprons comes baking something delicious! As soon as I saw the new Bee Gingham collection by Lori Holt, I knew the prints were perfect for new aprons.
As you can see, there are lots of sizes, colors and orientation for these gingham prints. I kept it simple by selecting 3 colorways (Alpine, Daisy and Cayenne) and chose various sized gingham. I chose some on the bias as well. I was inspired by the Bee Gingham Bee Happy Dish Towel Panel and ordered that as well!
I chose the Sugar Plum Apron by Little Lizard King — this is a super simple apron pattern with optional ruffles and pockets. For my teenager, I kept it fairly simple and used the Daisy colorway for most of it and added the tiny Alpine checks for contrast. The waist ruffle is part of the skirt piece so she did agree to that — teens are picky! My youngest is definitely more whimsical so we got more creative on hers. I kept looking at the truck with doggy on one of the towels and realized it fit perfectly as the bodice. She loves it! She also requested a pocket for her “baking tools” so I happily obliged!
After I finished the aprons, I moved onto the accessories. I used the tiny Daisy gingham to finish off the edges of one of the towels. The gingham reminded me of lemons so I made a lemon shaped hot pad trivet. Then I was looking at the hexagon towel and got an idea to make a flower shaped hot pad trivet. I love thinking outside of the box for panel uses. I still have one more towel panel to add trim to, but my girls were hounding me to bake cookies.
Trying out the cookies they helped bake — by the end of our afternoon of baking, it was gloomy and raining outside. Perfect day to perk up with something sweet. Head over to my blog for more details on each of the projects and to find out what kind of cookies we snacked on before dinner!
