Hey y’all. It’s Hilary of @byhilaryjordan back again with another project to share with you. This time I worked with the amazing new basic Dainty Daisy by Beverly McCullough. Working with prints is my favorite, so when I reach for basics I love subtle prints like the Dainty Daisy line.
Today’s project is a bit of a work in progress because I’ve been needing a palette cleansing project in my life. I was really sick a few weeks ago, then I started a new job, and life in general has been chaotic which has left me searching for my sewjo.
When this happens I find myself looking for something repetitive, a one block, easy to chain piece type of project. That’s how I came up with this rainbow half square triangle project. Using EQ8 I laid out a design for my HSTs to make sure I had enough fabric of each color for the design. Then I set to making my HSTs.
If you’d like to make a similar quilt, you’ll need 7 different half yards and 3 3/4 yards of background fabric. I cut the squares at 5″ when making 2 HSTs at a time, and I trim them to 4.5″ unfinished. When finished this quilt top will be 15 HSTs across and 16 HSTs down, and 60″ x 64″ in size. The perfect throw quilt in my opinion.
Another thing I use for making HSTs, is a tailors clapper when pressing. As you can see in the above picture, it helps keep the seams nice and crisp after pressing. I’ve named this quilt the #RainbowRibbonsQuilt, and I’d love to have you sew along with me.
Dainty Daisy is available now in your favorite local quilt shop, so choose your seven favorite colors and we can sew Rainbow Ribbon quilts together. 🌈🎀❤
