We have a seriously awesome quilt to share with you today — a Giant Half Square Triangle Quilt featuring fabric from Tara Reed’s Festival of Lights collection.
This Giant Half Square Triangle Quilt is as easy as it it eye catching! With just four rows across and four rows down, you’ll have this whipped up in no time at all.
The quilt is made with a combination of Riley Blake Basics in Kisses, Shabby, and Texture paired with the beautiful and festive Hanukkah themed collection, Festival of Lights.
The quilt is made entirely of half square triangles. Easy, right? The only catch is that because each block is unique, we won’t be making the half square triangles two or more at a time. Even so, the size of these blocks makes this project come together fast.
To make this quilt, you will need:
- 2 – 15″ squares White Texture (basics)
- 2 – 15″ squares Navy Texture (basics)
- 2 – 15″ squares Bleached Denim Confetti Cotton (basics)
- 2 – 15″ squares Aqua Shabby (basics)
- 2 – 15″ square Silver Kisses (basics)
- 1 – 15″ square White Star of David
- 1 – 15″ square Blue Star of David
- 1 – 15″ square White Dreidel Toss
- 1 – 15″ square Silver Dreidel Toss
- 2 – 15″ squares White Symbols
- 2 – 15″ squares Silver Symbols
- 8 – 3″ x WOF strips Navy Texture for the border
- 8 – 2 1/2″ x WOF strips Navy Texture for binding
- batting
- fabric for quilt back
Because each half-square triangle is unique, I opted to make these one at a time instead of the typical two at a time method.
To make them one at a time, place two squares right sides together. Stitch corner to corner and cut 1/4″ away from the seam on one side. (You can save the leftover triangle scraps for future projects.)
Open and press your seam toward the darker side.
After you have made all of your blocks, trim them to 14″ square and arrange so they look like the image above, or change it up and arrange them any way you like. With half-square triangles the options are endless!
Add the 3″ Navy Texture border around the edges and the quilt top is finished!
Here you can get a closer look at the Festival of Lights fabrics along with the Aqua Shades, Bleached Denim Confetti Cotton, and the Blue and White Texture fabrics. I love how all of these blues play together.
I quilted this on my home machine with a large all-over stipple design. Fast and easy!
The quilt back is our Wide Back Blossom in Gray. The gray color adds a nice contrast against the blues here.
And that’s it! Half-square triangles are a favorite block around here because of their versatility. The larger size blocks are fun and fast — perfect for a last-minute project.
