Citrus & Mint Designs has created two brand new fabric collections that are brimming with royal cuteness and fun folklore. GUINEVERE features feminine florals, bows, white horses, and castles. LANCELOT boasts proud lions, knights in shining armor, Sherwood Forest, and miniature shields. Each collection stands on its own or both can be used together for a fun stroll through the legendary medieval Camelot.
I put together this simple little Wonky Strip Baby Quilt to show how effortlessly the two collections work together. The color palette ranges from light pinks to mossy green to saturated gold and blue.
The quilt consists of nine 13” squares divided by simple white sashing and border.
This quilt is a great option for using up chunky scraps!
The finished quilt measures approximately 41” x 41”.
All seam allowances are 1/4”.
To make this quilt, you will need scraps in a variety of coordinating fabrics. All of the fabrics in this quilt came from the Guinevere and Lancelot fabric collections. The scraps of fabric should measure at least 15” wide and can be any height.
Cut the scraps so that the width remains 15” or longer while the top and bottom vary, ranging from wide at one end to narrow at the opposite end, as shown above.
Pair two strips together, right sides facing, matching up a wide end with a narrow end. Stitch and press seams. Repeat this until you have a group of strips sewn together that measure about 15”.
Trim edges so you end up with a 13” square.
Continue these steps until you have nine 13” squares.
Cut nine 2” x WOF strips of Confetti Cottons CLOUD fabric. This will be your sashing and borders.
From two of the strips, cut six 13” strips.
Begin assembling the rows. With right sides facing, pin the side of one block to the length of one of the 13” strips. Sew. Press Seams. Repeat until row is complete.
Repeat the row assembly above until you have three rows.
Add the horizontal sashing in between your three rows using one long 2” strip. Press seams.
Next, use 2” strips to attach a border to each side. Press seams and trim ends so they are flush with top and bottom edges.
Add border to top and bottom. Press seams and trim ends so they are flush with edges.
Now your quilt top is finished!
To complete the quilt, make a quilt sandwich (quilt back wrong side facing up + batting + quilt top right side facing up). Baste. Machine, hand, or professionally quilt.
For the quilt binding, I used this gorgeous Guinevere Hot Pink Daisy Chain print.
The quilt back is this fun Hot Pink Guinevere Castle print featuring cute little forests, lakes, villages and regal castles. This print will have children dreaming of medieval adventures all night long! Notice that because the fabric didn’t span the full width of my quilt, I used some scraps to extend it. I always love a scrappy quilt back!
You can see that I did get a few puckers in my quilting. This is probably due to the fact that I am always in a hurry – I need to learn to slow down! The great news is that after being washed and dried, the puckers hardly show at all!
I absolutely love how the Guinevere and Lancelot fabrics complement eachother so perfectly! Those little lions and knights in shining armor really bring out the royal castle theme, and the beautiful Sherwood Forest trees add lovely delicate detail.
Here is a close up of the little knights in shining armor print – one of my absolute favorites! I LOVE the tiny little details. What child’s imagination wouldn’t run wild with artwork like this to look at?
Another favorite of mine is this sweet little Guinevere People print. Don’t you just love the little cats?
