Hello from Lauren at Molly and Mama! Today I’m sharing my latest make with the beautiful Honeycomb Hill Collection by Katherine Lenius. It’s coming to stores in April 2023 and is one of the prettiest lines I’ve worked with in a long time. Katherine describes this collection as ‘florals, bee hives, bees, honeycombs and gingham, in soft but lovely colours’. She’s right. The mustard and peach tones I chose from the collection are so on trend. Look how pretty these prints are!
I really wanted to feature the cute bees hives in the main print, so decided to make my new ‘Sadie Sewing Machine Mat’ pattern.
My first task was to create the large hexagons for the top of the mat. It was fun fussy cutting those bee hives and creating a pile of pretty hexies in all those gorgeous prints.
I also needed to assemble a smaller hexie flower for the front pocket. If you haven’t made hexies before, they’re really simple. I have a fantastic tutorial to follow over on the Molly and Mama blog if you’re interested. I love sitting in the evenings and hand stitching hexies together!
Next was assembling the front pockets and putting everything together. The whole process was very straightforward. It’s an easy pattern to follow and great for beginners.
This pattern was also perfect for showcasing all the pretty prints I chose. All of those pockets look lovely! It was fun gathering my favourite supplies to show you how everything fits into the pockets on the mat. So practical!
You can see the mat pictured here with my Miss Molly Pin Cushion. She complements the mat perfectly, and is a quick and easy make. You can find both patterns in the store.
Keep an eye out for this collection online or ask for it at your local store. If you’d like to keep up to date with other Molly and Mama projects and patterns, feel free to subscribe to the newsletter. I’d love to get to know you better!
Happy stitching, Lauren.
