Hello friends! Laurel from Snowberry Street here with a fun, classic idea for your St. Patrick’s Day decor. Or for every day if you just really like green! This Double Irish Chain pattern is so easy and fast, you could really make this for all the holidays and all the days in between!
This quilt is made from only Riley Blake Basics, so these fabrics should be easy for you to find from your favorite shops to make one of your own! Those of you with eagle eyes will notice only 7 prints here in the photo I previously shared on Instagram instead of 8. One was folded into another and I totally missed it when taking the photo. 🙂
Here’s the names of all 8:
- Texture in Key Lime
- Shabby in Turtle
- Bee Basics in Circle Green (also used for backing and binding)
- Blossom in Holly (also used for the tiny flange binding)
- Bee Plaids in Bushel Green
- Bee Plaids in Homemade Granny Apple
- Swiss Dot in Clover
- Bee Cross Stitch in Riley Green
Additionally, I used Confetti Cotton in Cloud for the background.
Brooklyn at Two Crazy Stitches did the quilting for me. She suggested the Modern Rainbow pantograph from Intelligent Quilting, Inc. and it’s darling! I wanted a little something extra for the binding. That tiny flange binding or faux piping look is always my go-to when it needs a little punch. I opted for a top stitch this time instead of stitching in the ditch and I really like this look.
Want to make your own? There are many free patterns out there on the internet, but here’s what you’ll need for this Double Irish Chain:
“A” Blocks are a simple checkerboard block consisting of 12 print squares and 13 white squares all measuring 2.5″. Be sure to keep the white squares in all the corners as you lay out the checkerboard.
“B” Blocks contain the large white sections. 4 2.5″ print squares are sewn on either end of 2 white strips measuring 2.5″ x 6.5″. Sew each of those 2 strips, now with print squares on the ends, to the top and bottom of a 6.5″ x 10.5″ rectangle.
So easy! Each block finishes at 10″. Make as many as you need for your favorite size quilt! For the quilt top above, which finishes at 50″ x 70″, I started with 8 green 1/4 yards and 3 yards of white. You’ll need your prefered binding and backing as well. Stick with the monochromatic look or branch out with a gold metallic print or a scrappy rainbow binding.
