Midnight Rose, designed by Gabrielle Neil, is here! We are so excited, we can hardly stand it! It has been neat to see all of the beautiful projects you are making ad we just had to snatch up some fabric and jump on the bandwagon!
I decided to whip up a Big Wonky Star Quilt using this fabulous VIDEO TUTORIAL from Missouri Star Quilt Co. The tutorial is fantastic – clear and easy to follow. Honestly, this could be one of the easiest throw quilts you ever make!
I was inspired to go with a star theme when I saw the little splashes of gold sparkle in Gabrielle’s fabric collection. The sparkle adds an elegant touch, and you can easily turn it into something playful, like I did with this quilt.
To accentuate the gold sparkle/star theme, I decided to use the Riley Blake Gold Sparkle Blossom Dot – part of our wide selection of Riley Blake Basics.
The Giant Wonky Star Quilt calls for a 10″ stacker of the Midnight Rose fabric and several 10″ squares of the Gold Sparkle Blossom for the stars.
The points of the star are made freeform by laying the Blossom fabric at an angle. As you watch the VIDEO TUTORIAL you will see how absolutely easy this is to do. I love that the points are freeform – there is no pattern required at all for this quilt!
I quilted this with basic straight lines, also called “channel stitching.” The widths of my channels varied, but were typically 1-2″ apart.
I used Riley Blake Swiss Dot Navy on White for the quilt back. The Swiss Dots are also a Riley Blake Basic, and I often use them for quilt backs because they are so timeless and versatile.
We are completely smitten with the dreamy colors in the Midnight Rose collection. The combination of pink, navy, aqua, and periwinkle is pure eye candy!
I can guarantee we will be making more of this quilt. It is a quick make and shows off all of the prints in the collection beautifully. This quilt would make a great gift for a teenage girl – fun and funky without being immature.
