Hi, I’m Damjana from AppleGreen Cottage and today I’m showing you what I’ve been sewing with Mint For You, the latest collection by Melissa Mortenson. This time, it’s a playful quilt as you go table runner for Valentines Day.
Table runners add flare to any table, especialy on an occasion like Valentines Day. I couldn’t help but think next spring when I spotted Melissa’s prints. The Conversation Hearts in red, and the Sprinkle Hearts in white are my new favorites!
The table runner design I’m showing you today follows this quilted table runner tutorial at AppleGreen Cottage. I initially made it with super simple 3″ strips, quilted together into an all-seasons table runner that finishes at 40″ by 17″.
I already have a few handmade table runners, but it couldn’t hurt having one just for the occasion, right?
It’s such a lovely way to showcase different fabrics, little by little. And you definitely can’t go wrong with a heart design for Valentines, right! This is why I slightly adjusted the strip pattern tutorial to incorporate a large heart applique:
What I did was simply switch 4 strips from the original tutorial for a 10 1/2″ by 19″ block of the loveliest little Sprinkle Hearts print. For the appliqued heart I used the tiny scallops in cranberry colorway.
Since table runners are usually washed (often) I opted for a finished edge applique. This applique tutorial shows you the easiest method I know – and it’s so quick!
What I love about this way to do turned applique is that it does everything but it’s easier than the classic way to do turned applique. Follow the how-to and you’ll never again sweat when turning your applique!
And did you know the Mint For You collection also features antique gold print. I just had to add a stripe from the Sparkler collection. Look how beautifully these match!
Whether you’re planning a formal dinner party or a romantic dinner for two, or just choosing to make your table look pretty for the day – you can use this occasion to take a look at the beautiful Mint For You collection. I’m so glad I did!
