I have really been looking forward to creating a modern quilt.

Color blocking creates such beautiful clean lines. I chose to work with the Carefree Column Quilt pattern: Chapter 3, and I decided to make a smaller quilt, so I could use it as a table runner in my kitchen.

I chose 6 of my favorite colors to work with out of our Riley Blake Shades. Our Shades work up nicely because there is a slight pattern on the fabric (light and darker tones of the same color), which adds interest but still reads like a solid.

This pattern works up quick and easy because you cut everything at the same time from 6 fat quarters of fabric.

And for the strong contrast of color I used our Clean White solid fabric for the sashing and with the 4 patch.

The quilt top really did come together quickly and easily.

This quilt top was off to my long arm quilter, which I gave instructions to keep the theme of strait lines.

I really like how this table runner was quilted, very simply, which highlights the color blocking.

I just need to add my binding…

…..but I was off to the the airport heading to Norway for Quilte Festival.

A little binding on the plane (with Clean White Solid).

And the quilt is finished in Norway.

Thanks Nancy for the great quilting project and all the good tips!

Time to share a few pictures from Norway….

What a truly amazing time Jina and I had at the Norway Quilte Festival. It was our pleasure to attend this event.

We taught some fun make and take classes and met so many amazing women!

Yes, this is a closeup of that quilt because it is hard to express the amazingness of this quilt…fussy cutting of about every inch of this quilt, precision piecing, perfect points, the smallest of small hand appliqué…what more can I say but WOW!

Red and white quilts are a Norwegian favorite.

But soft blues are loved too, these two quilts were on display and were made by Masaka, a famous quilter from Japan.

We made some amazing friends with the fellow teachers at Quilte Festival, #waffleclub.

This Bunad is all hand embroidered. You can see why hand quilting is so popular in Norway, they have been doing it for centuries.

Quilting is alive and well in Norway….until next time!
