Hello friends! It’s Julia from Bayhill Studio and I’m excited to be sharing a Christmas themed quilt with you today featuring the Manger fabric Panel from the Picture a Christmas collection!
I absolutely LOVE the artwork in this panel! The gentle starlight streaming in through the window and leading the eye toward the figure of the baby Jesus, who is symbolically accompanied by a sweet little lamb.
As I thought about what kind of border to create for this panel, I knew I wanted to keep it simple so as not to distract from the beauty of the artwork. I decided to build on the night sky see outside of the cozy stable and add simple stars in various sizes, so they appear to be floating in the sky.
I used Painter’s Watercolor Swirl in Gold for the Stars, Riley Mustard Confetti Cotton for the inside border and binding, and Navy Sparkler for the night sky.
The fabric panel measures 36″ x WOF (about 42″). With the borders, the finished quilt measures approximately 64″ x 71″. The nice thing about this star border is that you can make the stars any size you want, so your finished quilt size can easily be manipulated.
I finished off the quilt with equally simple quilting. I used chalk to draw stars, quilted over those stars, and connected the stars with a large meandering design.
You can find details on how I created this border on my blog.
