We are excited to share a super fun quilt with you today! This Modern Patchwork Quilt features fabric from the brand new Pirate Tales collection, designed by Echo Park Paper Co.
We love how the prints and colors play together in this quilt!
The Pirate Tales collection is loaded with old-time pirate ships, sharks, treasure chests, skulls, and more! All in very modern shades of red, black, minty blue, and off white.
The Modern Patchwork Quilt is a FREE TUTORIAL, courtesy of Quilting Daily. If you can make a disappearing nine-patch block, you can whip up this quilt. The nine patch blocks are made with 10″ squares – so they are simply a giant version of a well-known block. Five of these super-sized disappearing nine-patch blocks are all it takes to create this quilt. Arrange the squares randomly, and there you have it!
I decided I wanted to bring in a water element to the quilting design, so I tried out a Watery Meandering stitch, using my home machine and free motion foot. This was an extremely easy design – perfect for beginners. You can watch a video tutorial for this stitch HERE.
The quilt is backed with our wide back Blossom in Red. I love how it brings out the splashes of red on the quilt top.
I used the Red Stripe for the binding – don’t you just love a striped binding? The tan squares you see scattered throughout are our Kisses Basics in Nutmeg. That little pop of brown adds even more visual interest, helping draw the eye toward the bits of brown in the fabrics.
