Sew Mug Rugs from the Happy at Home Fabric Panel

Mug rugs a great way to use the small designs across the top of my Happy at Home fabric panel. They are help use those batting or fleece scraps you have squirreled away and they’re great to keep on hand when you need a quick gift.

Put a mug rug in a coffee mug or tea cup with a cookie, biscotti, gift card or note and use them for Teacher Appreciation Gifts, Staff Appreciation Gifts, gifts for neighbors, Christmas gifts, things to sew and sell and more. Leave a comment and let us know what you like to do with mug rugs.

I made 4 mug rugs from the top row of the panel using the quilt as you go method. Cut the top strip 7″ high and then cut the 4 images apart. The long block with flowers can be a long mug rug on it’s own or you can cut it and use it for 2 different mug rugs (then you’d be able to make 5 just from that top row!)

What is Quilt As You Go (QAYG)?
Quilt As You Go is a quilting technique where you sew and quilt individual blocks or sections of your quilt, and then assemble them into a larger quilt. This method offers several advantages, including easier handling of smaller pieces, the ability to mix and match different quilt block designs, and the option to quilt using your home sewing machine.

I’ll walk you through the process step-by-step in the video below
