It’s time for another sneak peek, and today we’re thrilled to give you a look at the brand new officially licensed Sew Kewpie collection.
Originally launched as a comic published in 1909 in Ladies’ Home Journal, O’Neill’s Kewpie illustrations and stories featured these “little cupids” doing good deeds in funny and unexpected ways. Rose O’Neill described a Kewpie® as the baby form of a Cupid — “a sort of little round fairy who is always searching for ways to make the world a better and funnier place.”
O’Neill’s tiny-winged, wide-eyed, round-bellied Kewpies — with their distinctive facial expressions and their message encouraging merriment, love, and kindness — were an instant hit with both kids and adults. Little did Rose know that more than a century later, Rolling Stone Magazine would write about Kewpie helping to define “pop culture cuteness.”
Take a closer look at the Sage Main print, which features charming vintage treadle sewing machines, dress forms, thimbles, and vintage irons…and of course, the helpful little Kewpies mending and sewing up a storm, full of smiles while they work. The Main print will be available in Sage (shown here), Coral, and Cloud.
The Kooks prints is seriously so cute! Here you’ll find Kewpies sliding down ladels, nestled in teacups, and showing off their amazing baking skills. The print features vintage timers, dishes, jam jars, and more on a dotted trellis and roses backdrop. The Kooks prints comes in Blush (shown here), Cloud, and Songbird.
We are totally smitten with the Faces print! Each Kewpie has the most adorable chubby cheeks and facial expressions! The Faces print will be available in Coral (shown here), Cloud, and Songbird.
Another fun print in the Sew Kewpie collection is the Soft Book Panel. The panel comes ready to be cut and sewn together into a fun little soft book, perfect for keeping little ones busy during meetings, on the road, or any time at all! Soft books are a perfect way to introduce little ones to the joy of reading. They teach little hands how to turn pages, look at the images, and if the book happens to be used as a teether…no worries and no harm done! Instructions are printed on the panel itself, so putting this together could not be easier. Such a great gift idea!
We can’t wait to start creating with Sew Kewpie! We’re dreaming up quilts, aprons, table toppers and more! What will you make with Sew Kewpie?
