What ballet loving girl wouldn’t want to tote around all her gear in a children’s backpack just her size? Whether it’s heading to dance class or a trip to grandma’s house- she can keep her treasures close, and carry them herself! Hi! It’s Amy from Ameroonie Designs here for my turn on the Spin and Twirl blog tour.
Spin and twirl is the perfect line to use to create a unique backpack your little dancer will love. With lovely blush pinks, rich navy and delightful mint- plus the amazing gold accents, each print is a ballerina’s dream.
The pattern for the backpack is available for purchase in my Etsy shop and it includes a front pocket and a lanyard inside perfect for attaching a wallet or pouch. The mini wallet is a free pattern on my blog or get the PDF by subscribing to my newsletter, you can read all about it in this post.
I have been making these backpacks for years and my daughters love them and use them all the time. They are great for stowing just the right amount of stuff to keep them busy while running errands, or a day trip to a park or zoo. It’s so nice when they can help carry their own stuff! This backpack would also be perfect for trips to the library or use it as a dance bag to keep shoes, water bottles and anything else needed for class in one spot.
These backpacks are a quick sewing project and make wonderful gifts. You will need two, half yard cuts of fabric for the inside and outside and another quarter yard of fabric for the straps. If you want to add even more contrast, you can use a 1/3 yard cut of a fourth fabric for the pocket and flap to add a bit of fun as well. The thing that gives this bag so much body is the interfacing. I use both fusible fleece and fusible medium weight interfacing to give it stability and structure. In fact- fusing the interfacing is probably the longest part of this project, but one that helps it last for a very long time.
If you want more sewing projects as well as a tutorial for adding an accent strip to the bottom of your backpack- which is helpful if you want to use a lighter fabric for the main body of the bag, but also don’t want dirt to show so much- I hope you will follow me over on my Instagram account or head over to my blog where there are lots of fun free projects, tips and inspiration.
Happy Sewing friends!
