We are super excited to help kick off Patty Young’s Acorn Valley Blog Tour today!
This fun woodland inspired collection comes in Flannel and Jersey Knit. You’ll also find the Acorn Valley Butterfly prints in Double Gauze.
Just look at those little foxes…and mushrooms…and squirrels! These motifs, combined with Patty’s signature bold colors, are absolutely perfect for all ages.
I decided to use Patty Young’s FREE Spin-Me-Round Quilt Pattern and the super soft Acorn Valley Flannel to make this sweet little quilt – perfect for a toddler or throw blanket.
I love quilting with flannel because it comes out so soft and cuddly. When quilting with flannel, I choose larger scale strips or blocks. I do this because flannel does have more bulk than quilting cotton, and therefore doesn’t lend itself to small, intricate block designs.
I quilted this with my regular sewing machine, using uneven straight lines that ran parallel to the strips. I kept the lines about 1/5″ – 2″ apart, which gave it some structure and visual interest. However, if you want the quilt to have less structure, you could simply quilt over the seams or use a design that isn’t quite as tight.
You can get the FREE pattern download for this quilt here.
