If you have been following along with Bonnie’s Traditional Block Thursday tutorials, you will have mastered the half square triangle and flying geese techniques. In Bonnie’s latest tutorial, the Pieced Star, she combines both techniques to make this beautiful star block.
For my modern version of Bonnie’s block, I opted to use Riley Blake Olive and Pale Green solids.
This was the most challenging block I have made so far. The individual pieces were easy to create, but lining up the points and seams required some patience. They didn’t turn out absolutely perfect, but I’m pretty happy with them overall.
I can’t wait to see both Bonnie’s traditional blocks and my modern blocks sewn up into their respective quilts. It is always fascinating to me that color and fabric design can drastically change the look of a quilt block.
I would love to see your finished blocks! Share your pictures with us on Instagram and Twitter using #iloverileyblake #tbtmodern
