Texture, by Sandy Gervais, is almost here and we cannot wait, so we decided you need a sneak peek! As soon as we started playing with this fabric, we had to ask ourselves how we ever managed without it!
Available in 30 colors, texture can stand alone or work as an accent fabric, giving depth, and you guessed it, texture, to your project.
I used the Plus Sign Quilt TUTORIAL by Missouri Star Quilt Co. to get started, but instead of using 5″ squares, I cut 6 1/2″ squares. I used 64 squares total — 8 across and 8 down for a good sized baby or toddler quilt.
I decided to let Texture stand alone in this Modern Plus Baby Quilt. I pulled various shades of blue and green, with a splash of Winter Pear. LOVE this color combo!
Here is a close up of the Texture fabrics. I used an aqua thread for the quilting, which adds a fun, subtle hint of color.
I quilted with straight lines, about 1/4″ – 1/2″ apart. Straight line quilting does have the tendency to pull the fabric. Most advise to use a walking foot and to go nice and slow. I have no problem using a walking foot, but going slow seems to be impossible for me, so I do get pulling. I don’t mind it — I think it adds a bit of home spun character, but if that’s something that would bother you, try those two tips and see if it helps.
For the quilt back, I used Gold Sparkle Kisses. Kisses are a Riley Blake Basic, and the perfect choice to back a plus quilt, because those tiny x’s also look like tiny pluses!
