Welcome! I am excited to share this super easy Table Runner with you today – the perfect piece for your next team party or sports viewing get together!
Using a fabric panel from Deena Rutter’s new Varsity collection made whipping this up a snap! Deena’s Varsity collection features sports such as Basketball, Football, Hockey, Volleyball, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, and Baseball.
I decided to use the LaCrosse panel. I mean, what’s not to love about this?!
Lacrosse is such a fun sport to watch, and while it isn’t as well known here in the West, when we lived on the East Coast, it was huge! This photo shows just one corner of one middle school hallway at my child’s school. During lacrosse season, every hallway had a trash can overflowing with sticks just like this.
Making this table runner is EASY! I simply cut an 18″ wide x WOF strip from the center of the panel. If you want a narrower table runner, or one that is shorter in length, simply cut it smaller.
Next I made a quilt sandwich (backing fabric + batting + table runner top fabric).
I quilted straight lines about 1/2″ apart along the entire length of the runner. I like to keep my lines close together on table runners in order to create more structure and stability. With dishes being placed on top of it, I want it flat, not fluffy.
To quilt it, I used a medium grey thread on the front and back. For the binding, I used the Black Varsity Lacrosse print. Aren’t those tiny lacrosse sticks fun?
For the back, I used the Orange Varsity Ball Texture print, which adds a fun pop of color and contrast.
The Varsity panels are so fun to play with. They are full of bold color, and the messages, such as “Work Hard and Stick Together,” are both fun and uplifting.
