Why hello friends!
It is Sarah from Piccolo Studio here and today I am sharing my make using the brilliant Winter Wonder collection, created by Heather Peterson from Anka’s Treasures. It is such a fun collection to work with, filled with a mix of modern and traditional prints in different colour ways. And to make things even more fun there is a panel to play with as well!
It is freezing cold in Adelaide right now as we head into the middle of winter. And not a pretty winter like this fabric collection has me dreaming about with snow days, cabins nestled in snow and cosy nights by the fire slow stitching. Instead we have rain, rain and considerably more rain to contend with here which come with muddy paws, constant wet feet and washing drying inside. It was nice to sit and sew with Winter Wonder this week and imagine myself in Minnesota having all the fun though I can tell you.
I selected all the red and aqua fabrics from the collection and couldn’t go past making a Santa Sack, using my own pattern. I modified it slightly so I could use some of the amazing panel to add some detail. I finished it with some red sparkly ribbon ties for some extra fun.
Now it is hard to get a good guage but this sack is ENORMOUS. It is certainly large enough to hold lots of presents for your favourite little person. There is an option in the pattern to make a flat bottom so boxes fit more snugly but I opted to keep mine standard so the snowman sat front and centre. The sack is fully lined to add extra sturdiness against eager little hands trying to get to presents on Christmas morning.
Once I had finished the sack I could not resist adding a coordinating stocking with my leftover fabric. I even found vintage Riley Blake pom pom trim for the cuff! This is my own pattern again, available on my website and in my Etsy store.
Don’t pom poms just make everything better!
The great news about the fabric panel is that there are so many designs to choose from and they all cut to 10.5″ squares perfectly which means you will be able to use them in so many brilliant ways – I had so many creative brainwaves the minute I saw them. The other side of this sack uses the gingerbread house designs, I am regretting not photographing those too that is for sure!
I did make a second stocking using that gorgeous snow day print and will get some better pics to share on my social media soon. How sweet is it with all of that gorgeous imagery, I definitely need to holiday to a place that does winter better!
And that is a wrap from me! Thank you to Riley Blake for allowing me to play with this gorgeous collection – it is definitely one to add to your stash, make sure you ask your LQS to get it in for you. If you would like to make your own Christmas set you can purchase both patterns together for a discounted rate from my store.
Until next time, happy sewing!
Sarah xx
PS. Ok, one more pic…
