It is Sarah here from Piccolo Studio and today is my turn on the Reflections blog tour. I am so excited to share my make with you.
Reflections is the latest collection by Lauren Brewer Designs and it so effortlessly modernizes retro style prints. Cherries, lemons and patterns inspired by vintage American glassware have been used in a really clever way to create a range of prints that will suit so many different styles of quilting and crafting. And those main florals – to die for!
The fabric arrived at the perfect time because I had just been gifted this gorgeous Elms and King bag for work. While I am not a huge fan of plain black bags the ties on the side absolutely swayed me. With no pockets on the inside I needed a way to keep my laptop safe and, as always, it was an opportunity to add in the pretty!
I used my trusty iPad cover tutorial and enlarged it to make a laptop sleeve. It is a quick sew and makes wonderful gifts as well – it has definitely been a go to sew over the years for teachers or parents dragging around toddlers and iPads.
To enlarge the sleeve I measured my laptop and added 1″ to the dimensions. I wanted it to be lovely and snug so it wouldn’t slide out of the sleeve, especially as I decided I didn’t want to add a button closure. I then cut batting slightly larger than my measurements and got quilting. To get the same look you can use my Quilt as You Go tutorial to get you started. I then trimmed it down to the required size and followed the tutorial to assemble. It was easily done in a couple of hours and I am excited to take it for a test run tomorrow.
A perfectly snug fit and a great way to add some handmade pretty to my day job!
How are those for a beautiful handmade workbag. Even that gorgeous leather clutch is handmade by Australian Designer Pennidee Designs. The journal cover is another tutorial I am working on which I will share later this year.
