Christopher Thompson of The Tattooed Quilter is joining us on our YouTube Channel to teach the basics of FPP! FPP stands for Foundation Paper Piecing and it is a fun technique for making quilt blocks. FPP can seem very intimidating at first but today, Christopher will break it down to the basics and teach you step-by-step how to make your very own FPP Log Cabin Quilt Block.
The key to success with FPP is patience, practice, and the right tools!
In the video above Christopher is sewing his block in Confetti Cottons. Colors used are Cloud, Navy, Denim, Boy Blue, and Periwinkle. We decided to make another block using his Basic Blossom! The colors we used in the below block are Jade, Sweet Mint, Raspberry, Lipstick, and On White All the Pink.

Sometimes, the paper makes all the difference! This FPP paper by Kristy Lea goes right into your printer and is fantastic! It won’t curl on you and it tears away beautifully.
Two Rotary Cutters
When your blade gets dull, move it on over to your second rotary cutter to be used only for paper! Use washi tape or some kind of label to mark that it is for paper only.
Rotating Cutting Mat by Sue Daley
This notion is awesome for FPP when trimming your blocks but, is also great for all other quilting projects. Our Rotating Cutting Mat is wonderful to use and comes in a small and large size. The size shown above is the small and measures 10″.
