Hi everyone! It’s Kari from That’s-Sew-Kari stopping by today with a project that has me dreaming of warmer days. Honey Bee is the latest collection from My Mind’s Eye — a bright collection of golden yellow, black and white. It features a mixture of florals, honeycombs and bias gingham.
This collection makes it so easy to mix and match the fabrics to create a one-of-a-kind creation. Normally, I choose a main print and a coordinate, but this time I chose 4 fabrics! I selected: Honey Bee Floral Parchment, Honey Bee Plaid Black, Honey Bee Honeycomb Daisy, and Honey Bee Honeycomb Parchment.
After a month of yo-yo weather, I had to take advantage of a tiny warm-up and sewed up a summer dress. The Amsterdam Dress by Little Lizard King is high neck bodice with adjustable ties. I modified the skirt to add a ruffle. I originally was going to sew an alternate pattern that had a ruffle, but decided this dress silhouette suited my daughter more. I had already slated the plaid as the skirt ruffle and I love the finished look.
I love the simplicity of the back. It’s perfect for our hot NC summers and the elastic and adjustable ties means that she has growing room.
Little Lizard King also has the perfect hand embroidery pattern that matches this collection — Madeira. I love how hand embroidery adds that little special touch. My daughter has watched me work on it too so she knows all the extra work that went into it. (I definitely sewed the dress faster!) I also “color blocked” the bodice so I could use the plaid as faux piping between the two Honeycomb prints. To complete the look, I sewed up a Nara Bow (5″ size) also by Little Lizard King. It’s my most sewn accessory and takes less than 5 minutes to sew up.
