Amor Eterno – Memory Pillows

Hello, friends! It’s Julia from Bayhill Studio, and today I’m thrilled to be sharing a project idea that is both beautiful and meaningful.

I fell in love with the Amor Eterno collection, designed by Crafty Chica, as soon as I saw it. I wanted to make something that would honor both the tradition of Dia de Muertos and showcase the gorgeous fabrics. That’s when I thought of the FREE Reading Pillow Tutorial by Polka Dot Chair, and the idea of a “Memory Pillow” took hold.

The idea is that friends and family members can leave thoughtful notes in the pocket of the Memory Pillow commemorating a departed loved one. This could make a thoughtful gift to someone who is grieving, or could become part of a family tradition as they commemorate Dia de Muertos each year.

I love the Cats and Dogs print, and decided to make a second pillow commemorating our beloved family pets who have passed on. This can be such a painful experience, especially for children, and having a little pocket in which to store momentos or leave little love notes might help lessen the sting.

In the first pillow, I added a traditional piping to the pocket top and pillow edges for a nice, polished look. For the second pillow, I added a faux piping.
