Happy Monday! We have a super fun little project to share with you today!
We whipped up this Parker Pack (pattern by Sassafras Lane found HERE) and we love it so much, we’re itching to make more!
For our bag, we selected fabric from the At the Lake collection designed by Tara Reed. This collection of lake-themed fabrics was so much fun to work with! From fishing gear, to canoes and oars, and a fun fish print, this fabric line has us itching to spend time out on the water.
The bag measures 14″ wide and 13″ tall. We discovered that the No Wake Zone fabric panel was the perfect size for this project, so it became the bag front. Isn’t it fabulous?!
The fabric panel is made up of four squares. The words on the other squares were a little too wide for our project, but they would be fun to make into a coordinating picnic quilt, pillows, or even fussy cut into an apron!
We love Tara’s artistry in this fabric panel. The soft, mottled watercolor backdrop with a single sleepy boat in the forefront is both calming and inspiring. The “No Wake Zone” verbiage it a fun touch with its double meaning.
We used the Hunter plaid for the bag back, along with cork for the bag straps and handles.
We used the Navy Dot for the bag lining fabric, and the Gray Fish print for the pocket.
We opted to quilt our bag with simple straight lines. When making this bag, you’ll want to quilt it to the fusible fleece at the very beginning before you do anything else. We used fusible fleece for the other pieces and for the lining for additional structure, although we didn’t quilt the lining.
The straps on this bag can easily be removed to make it a simple tote bag, or you can keep the straps attached to make it a handy backpack as you wander around the lake.
Fabric panels are so much fun to play with! We love how versatile they are. Add a border or two and quilt them up as-is for a super fast project, or fussy cut them into more complex quilts, pillows, bags, table toppers and more!
