Basin Feedsacks – Apricot Dress

Hello friends! Gail here from Boo and Lu Patterns. Today I am sharing my make using the new collection by Stacy West, Basin Feedsacks!

First of all, can we just take a second to admire this beautiful rainbow of colors?! I love ditsy florals so I knew I had to have the Vines prints. And when I think ditsy florals, I think vintage/retro styles. This is why I chose my brand new Apricot Retro Collar dress pattern.

Apricot is finished with the cutest retro style collar and the bodice is split down the middle making it perfect for creating fun chevron looks and playing with stripes.

I just KNEW I had to try and create a pretty rainbow chevron bodice. To do this, I cut the fabric into strips and sewed them together to create a large striped square. I repeated this process to have 2 squares so that I could fit both bodice main pieces mirrored and make sure that my stripes matched.

You’ll then cut your squares in half diagonally. Make sure that on your second square you mirror the diagonal line as shown below.

Now that you have your two squares cut, turn the triangles so that the long edges are parallel.

Place your pattern pieces on top making sure to put them in the same spot on each triangle. This will ensure that your chevron matches on each side.

Cut out the pattern pieces. You can now sew them together per the tutorial!

This can even be done with fabric that already has stripes on it for an even quicker modification! You can adjust the width of your strips of fabric to change how your chevron stripes will lay out on your bodice.

Thank you so much to Riley Blake Designs for providing me with this fabric and for allowing me to share my makes here on their blog.
