Hi! It’s Kristina Brinkerhoff from Center Street Quilts and today I’m sharing a colorful Scrappy Circles quilt (plus a link to the free tutorial!) made from the new Bee Plaids fabric collection by Lori Holt. Bee Plaids has all of Lori Holt’s signature colors, but this time in a variety of delightful plaid prints.
With the retro feel of the colors and prints, I thought it would be fun to turn the fabric into a tried and true classic quilt block: the Drunkard’s Path. And while the fabric is all from the same Bee Plaids fabric collection, the random placement really does give the quilt a scrappy vibe.
The Scrappy Circles quilt uses (20) 1/4 yard cuts for the quilt top and since the Bee Plaids collection includes more prints than that, I choose a good variety of prints from each of the colorways. My Scrappy Circles quilt was long armed with the Good Vibrations pantograph (with the rows offset a bit). The backing and binding are both from Lori Holt’s Bee Basics collection with Riley Blake Designs.
If you’d like to make your very own Scrappy Circles quilt, you can find all the details on my blog HERE. In the tutorial, I have included a printable template for the curved pieces along with step-by-step photos to walk you through sewing curves (it’s really not anything to be scared of!).
You can find the entire collection of Bee Plaids by Lori Holt in shops now. Not only do they make a great quilt top on their own, but there are so many great blenders, too! Plus, those bias plaids are perfect for bindings, right?!?
If you make your own Scrappy Circle quilt, I’d love to see it! Please tag me on social media (@centerstreetquilts) so I can see your version.
Happy Sewing!
