We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. RBD Flannel is as cozy as it comes! We recently released a new collection of Designer Flannel and have been loving seeing all the projects people are making with it. Today we are sharing a quick and easy scrap buster project with the Play Time and Shape Up prints.
You can see the full release of Designer Flannel on the storyboard.
The Play Time SKUs include a tossed design that has small illustrations of toys, tools, animals, and more. While looking at the leftover fabric from another project I knew I had enough fabric left to make a small play quilt. The little icons would be perfect for a game of iSpy!
I started by fussy cutting 36 squares with the little pictures on them and arranging them in a patchwork grid. The Trim-It Rulers by Lori Holt and the Rotating Cutting Mat by Sue Daley made that task a breeze!
After I finished my little patchwork iSpy I went back to my scraps to see how much fabric I had left and what kind of boarder I could improvise.
I had enough to cut 4 1/2″ wide strips of the remaining SKUs and added onto the main grid block side by side until I used up all my scraps and had a perfect little square quilt! The flannel makes this quilt SO snuggly. I used RBD Flannel for the backing as well.
I finished the quilt with some wide wavy lines so the quilting wouldn’t distract from the iSpy element. This little quilt ended up being the perfect size for a carseat or stroller trip or a play mat for the floor.
When it comes to using up your scraps you don’t need a pattern. Improvising and making it up as you go can be a great creativity boost and leave you with the most fun projects.
