Tis the season to be spooky! If you are looking for a fun and easy Halloween project why not try some hanging (or standing) ghosts with scrap fabric and starch?
It feel like everywhere you turn there are adorable ghosts – ghost quilts, ghost costumes and ghost decorations of all sizes. I decided I wanted to turn my October ghost fabric from the Monthly Placemat Program into ghosts and get in on the fun too!
All you need is a few simple ingredients and hours to dry
This really is a simple project – you soak squares of fabric in liquid starch (I just used it straight out of the jug – no diluting), hang it on a rounded form and let it dry.
I personally hit a snag when I saw everyone using balloons in cups or jars to give the rounded shape of the head… I’m really allergic to latex so balloons are a no-go for me. If you have that issue as well you’re in luck – I’ve got ideas!
I used a glass Christmas ornament in a small mason jar with a 12″ or 14″ square of fabric to make the small ghosts. For the larger ghost – made from an 18″ square of fabric – I found a plant terrarium at the Dollar Tree, removed the piece for hanging it and put it on a glass cup.

Once dry, glue on felt or google eyes and let them stand on bookcases or hang with fishing line for a more haunted effect.
