Hello! I’m Laura from Slice of Pi Quilts, and I’m hopping onto the Riley Blake blog to share a fun quilt today! Yes, it’s chickens!
I started with a stack of fabric from the Effervescence collection by Sue Daley. It’s such a fun and colorful mix of chevrons, bubbles, and swirls! This pattern uses a 10″ stacker (or layer cake), and you can make a LOT of chickens from one stack!
I’ll let you in on a little secret behind this quilt – I used less than half of the chicken blocks that I made! So I actually have enough chickens to make a whole second quilt!!
The quilt is made using raw-edge applique, and you make both a chicken AND the “negative” cut-out of the chicken at the same time. So you get two blocks for the cutting work from one!
I briefly considered making a double-sided quilt with chickens on both sides, but quickly let go of that idea because of course TWO chicken quilts would be better than ONE!
I think this is my favorite chicken in the whole quilt. I mean, a HOT PINK chicken!! I don’t own any chickens, but I do know several chicken moms and dads that would love a fun quilt like this!
You can hop over to my blog HERE to look a bit more behind the seams and get the pattern!
And you can follow me on Instagram @sliceofpiquilts to see what I’ll be sewing next! (Like that second chicken quilt!)
Happy quilting!
