Home. It is my favorite place to be…
Recently my husband and I took our first trip without kids since our oldest was born twelve years ago. We had a great time, but I couldn’t wait to get back home. I have worked hard to make our little farmhouse in the Midwest a cozy place to be, and I really miss it when I’m away. Most of the time when I travel, I take a little piece of home with me. A soft pillow, a favorite quilt. This project was created to remind me of my most favorite place, and I plan to take it with me next time I’m away.
I was immediately drawn to this Fleur Noire fabric by My Mind’s Eye. It fits perfectly with my home, which is mostly decorated in cream, gray, black, and sage greens. I had originally intended to make a tablecloth with napkins, but honestly, I live in a house with three boys, and what I really needed was a new pillow for our couch. You can imagine that our furniture and pillows get used a lot, and I find myself replacing them often. I always make my pillows with a zipper so they can easily be washed.
I used my copy of Spelling Bee, a book by Lori Holt, to create the letters that spelled HOME. This book is great, the instructions are so easy to follow, and each block comes together quickly. I then used the patchwork print that comes with the fabric line to make the borders.
I used a lovely floral print from the line to make the back, which makes the pillow very pretty when reversed as well. Since the zipper is on the bottom of the pillow, it really can be reversible.
I enjoyed the pillow on my bed for a while, but now it has moved to its permanent home on our couch, where I have no doubt it will be snuggled with, tossed around, and cherished by all.
Thanks for stopping by to check out my project! I hope you have a lovely day.
