Flower Farm – Sewing For The Baking Season

Hi, it’s Damjana from AppleGreen Cottage, sewing with the Flower Farm collection. With the holiday season at the door, my kitchen would welcome a makeover. It turned out to be the perfect time for me to create a whole new kitchen baking set for myself and the kids!

Meet my new kitchen ‘team’: the new oven mitt, and potholders.

These are the prints I used from the Flower Farm collection by Keera Job, featuring beautiful, bright petals, lush greenery, and delicate flower buds – I love that timeless charm of flowers. It’s a wonderful choice to bring a touch of nature’s beauty into your home’s decor.

And I can never resist a color palette that includes vibrant teals and limes, paired with pink!

Easy and comfortable oven mitt with no binding

I couldn’t resist the idea of crafting a simple yet stylish oven mitt using this lovely fabric collection. The vibrant prints just spoke to my love for bright, cheerful kitchen accessories. So I turned the idea into a tutorial, and a free pattern. You can get them both at the AppleGreen Cottage site:

It comes in 2 sizes: standard size and kids size

I made the adult size this time. It is a generous standard size that will fit most adults. But in case you are blessed to have little helpers when baking for this holiday season, I’ve got you covered: the free template at Applegreen Cottage also includes a kid-sized oven mitt pattern.

And then, I made a few potholders. I was looking for something simple, and the answer seemed logical. these:

This is the easiest potholder tutorial I could think of, it has no bound edges at all.

This potholder finishes at 7″ square. I first made the basic version with the beautiful Main floral, and then the two beautifully matching prints, the Teal Outlined Floral and the Lime Vines. I wanted them both visible on both sides, so I turned two 9″ squares into two 8-inch four-patch quilt blocks, the quickest way I know.

I felt clever putting the hanging loop into the corner, so it’s out of the way when I don’t need it. Especially, it doesn’t poke into cookies and cakes when I’m rotating baking trays!

Also, I always add a round of topstitching along the edges. the stitches will hold the layers together so layers don’t shift after laundering – and they’ll look so neat. My potholders get washed often – I’m a messy cook, haha!

I actually have two tutorials for pot holders. The second one comes with quilt binding and also includes a play-kitchen size for kids. Feel free to use the kid-sized potholder tutorial in case you’re working on the kid-sized oven mitt I mentioned above. The mini potholder finishes at 5″ square.
