In my world, there are only two seasons—winter and baseball. While many sports fans are filling out March Madness basketball brackets right now, my heart is in Arizona at Sloan Park—the Spring Training home of the Chicago Cubs. This Home Run pattern by Emily Dennis has been on my Must Make list for ages and finally made it happen! Taking photos of this beauty was rather comical in the crazy wind. I used all Riley Blake Confetti Cottons for this quilt. I never get tired of how gorgeous they feel! The weight is just perfect and the opacity of the whites makes me happy every single time. A few teams have changed colors (or reverted to old ones) since the pattern was written, so I made a few color adjustments to make it more current. This quilt will eventually end up in the hands of a die-hard Yankees fan, so the sashing and binding are gray and navy. I debated long and hard about the backing, but settled on a gray minky for maximum snuggle and weight. This will make it harder to stand up and yell at the umps! Ha! Kidding….Kind of.
I was also able to trim a little less off each block when squaring them up than is written in the pattern. This made the quilt just a tad bit bigger and I had less waste!
Brooklyn at Two Crazy Stitches quilted the diamond shape for me and it was the perfect choice for this quilt!
The pattern has the option to make a single team or all 30 teams as I’ve done. I did my best to match each team’s official Pantones and uniform colors to Confetti Cotton to be as accurate as possible. Here’s the list of the colors I used broken down by team:
