Hello! I’m Laura from Slice of Pi Quilts, and I’m SO excited to share my new Suitcases quilt pattern with you!
I have three boys, and my husband worked on airplanes for many years. We’ve all enjoyed looking at the prints in the Pan Am collection and talking about past travels and making future vacation plans!
The Suitcases pattern is fat quarter friendly, and this throw size is 56″ x 62″.
A friend of a friend owns an airplane, so I got to go out to the airport for a quilty photo shoot! We had so much fun! And the plane perfectly coordinated with the fabric!
I used all 12 prints in the collection to make the suitcases. You could make even more suitcases for a larger quilt!
I used Confetti Cottons solid Latte for the background and Confetti Cottons Redwood for the back and binding. I love that pop of red around the edge!
I used 50wt Aurifil thread in Dove for the piecing and quilting.
I free-motion quilted it on my domestic machine. I used my free-motion foot, but I only moved in right angles when changing directions. This created a “boxed” type of design.
Wouldn’t this be such a fun quilt to take with you when you travel to a quilt retreat or stay at a friend’s house? Just think of all the travel memories the quilt would hold!
The Suitcases quilt pattern is available now! You can visit my blog for additional photos and color palette options. Follow me on Facebook or Instagram to see what I’ll be sewing next!
