We are excited to share another fun sneak peek with you today! Melissa Mortenson’s much anticipated Ahoy Mermaids collection is coming soon and we can’t wait!
When asked about the inspiration behind this collection, Melissa said: “Last fall my family and I had the opportunity to take a cruise up the New England Coast. It was my first time in that part of the country and I absolutely loved it. I was so inspired by the gorgeous scenery and the strong influence of the sailing industry in the area. As we were on the cruise I started to imagine what it would be like if “my Mermaids” (from an earlier fabric line) moved up here from the southern seas. I imagined them taking on the pirates, fishing for lobster and making friends with all of the fishermen and women. When I got home, I started sketching and the Ahoy! Mermaids collection was born. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.”
The color palette in this collection is loaded with preppy pinks, greens, and navy blue, but Melissa added a fun nautical splash of teal and mint, and even some gold sparkle.
Here is a closer look at the Main print. We adore the pink-haired mermaids gliding along in the water, surrounded by bubbles and fish, and even sporting pirate hats! The Main print comes in Ocean (shown here), White, and Seafoam.
The Ocean print is a fun, wavy monochromatic stripe with mermaid tails, fish, and whales peeking through the waves. This print comes in Seafoam and Green (with Gold Sparkle), and Pink (shown here).
We love the Whales print which is a simple tossed print featuring whales of various sizes. This print comes in Green (shown here), Ocean, and Coral.
The collection features this fun clamshell cheater cloth. No piecing required! Add some batting and a quilt back, quilt it up, and you have a quick and easy gift idea!
You’ll also find this adorable fabric panel in the Ahoy! Mermaids collection. This could be quilted up as-is, or fussy cut the squares and borders and incorporate them into a larger quilt, pillow, or bag!
