Project Design Team Thursday ~ Spinning Top Quilt

Hi there, It’s my turn again to blog for Penny Rose Fabrics.  I chose to make something out of the awesome fabric by Lori Holt. Calico Christmas is great and the pattern Spinning Top from Penny Rose Fabrics.

There’s just something so soothing about the prints in this bundle. I love bright Christmas don’t get me wrong but this is a nice change. So soft, so cozy.  Cozy Christmas!!

Cutting a new quilt is always exciting isn’t it? Maybe that’s why we have lots of projects going on at once. I was talking with my Hunka about starting projects and he says to me, you have  10 going right now don’t you? Uhhhhh 10? Uhhhh  yes, yes I have only 10.

This is a fast block to make. I usually get bored after a few blocks in any project but I could have made these all day long. The instructions are really good. Everything lines up just right.

The background fabric in this line is the best ever! I seriously mean that. I ordered more than one bolt.  I may be hoarding a bolt as well. When you find a good one hang on to it. Am I right? It can be used in so many projects. Not just a Christmas one. What about in a baby quilt. Oh yea!! Perfect isn’t it? Sparkle White is what it’s called.

This project is a free one from the Penny Rose website. They have so many great projects over there and they are FREE. Check em out. Bet you can’t just pick one.

I decided to put Lori’s flannel snowmen print on the back of this quilt. I know I will be using it a lot this Winter. Someone recently asked me if flannel is ok on the back of a quilt that isn’t flannel on the top. Of course. I’ve never had a problem with doing that. I love flannel quilts and don’t sew with a lot of flannel so putting it on the back is always a good option. And those snowmen!! Love them.  I also have the reindeer in flannel in my Etsy shop. They are pretty cute too. But I went with pink. Riley Blake fabric is really good quality. Good feel, good hand………just plain old good!  I’ve had flannel that’s so thin that you can see through it. Not this. It’s nice and heavy too. Which you will appreciate when that white stuff hits the ground. It’s coming you know it is.

I know I say this with all of my quilts but………this might be my favorite one.

I used Lori’s Calico Days plaid for the binding. The color matches the Cozy Christmas fabric perfect.

The quilt is 53×60 on the pattern but I added another 6 inch border to mine to make it bigger. And I’m so glad I did.
