Hi! It’s Julia from Bayhill Studio! If you are interested in ditching the structure of traditional pieced quilting for a little relaxed improv? Look no further, I have the project for you!
I’m calling this the Improv Curves Crib Quilt, but you can make this any size you want, and you can create any size block you want, the options for this are endless.
I used fabric from The Waterhole collection designed by Gabrielle Neil Designs. I am in love with the earthy color palette, the adorable meerkats, the patchwork cheater cloth, and those rainbows!
On my BLOG I show you just how easy it is to make this curved block. Because this is improv, the blocks will all look different, giving the overall quilt a whimsical free-form vibe.
Crib and lap quilts are super easy to quilt on your home machine due to their small size. I backed my quilt with The Waterhole Cheater Cloth, and I decided to use the rows on the cheater cloth as my quilting guide. Easy peasy!
Here is how they look on the front of the quilt. The loose rows will allow this quilt to wash up super soft and cuddly, which is perfect for little ones, and because this is such a quick and easy make, you won’t be afraid to let your little ones use this as a play mat, drag it on the floor, or take along in the car.
Here’s another look…aren’t those colors gorgeous?! Get the tutorial on my BLOG, and follow me on Instagram @bayhillstudio for more fun project ideas and inspiration. Be sure to subscribe to my YouTube Channel for a growing list of tutorials!
