Hi, it’s me Sharon from Daisy Cottage Quilting. It’s my turn to blog for Penny Rose Fabrics. I’m again very excited to get this chance. I have a fun quilt for you. I will do a quick tutorial to let you know what I did to get this design. Here we go……..
I’m calling this Twirling Triangles. I love when you make a block and then turn it and get a whole different look. I am not a fan of triangles I will just tell you that now. I’m a square kinda girl. But, triangles can make such neat blocks. So every now and I then I give it a whirl.
I had a stack of fabric from Penny Rose Fabrics called Hope Chest II to work with. It is so pretty and so vintage looking. I loved the variety of fabric in the bundle. Easy to create when you have a great stack of fabric.
This was the design I was going with and I loved it until…………
I flipped the blocks. Ohmygoodness!!! Even better!!! The blocks on the top are from my Lori Holt Farm Quilt. That’s on my list to complete still. So Hunka does pay attention to what I’m making and gives me ideas every now and then. Usually I ignore his ideas and for good reason. But this time I listened. I had started my top row of blocks and they were unfinished looking. Actually top and right side. He says, hey you need to move some of those blocks.
Well what do ya know! This block is amazing no matter which way you turn it. You get a different look. I really wanted to make the quilt bigger and now wish I would have. You know how that goes right?
Folded in half.
I quilted it and then used my scraps for the binding. Why not. Scrappy is good.
And that backing….. it’s also from Hope Chest II fabric line. It’s a perfect backing fabric. So vintage looking. I’m making pillow cases using this too. Perfect with blues and pinks, even red. RED? That sold me!!
Love it so much. I’m glad there is a couple black prints in this. Sometimes you think it might not work but then it really does. Just like using purples. It works!
The white I use is Riley Blake White. It’s a nice crisp clean white.
Ok, so here are the measurements I used for this.
I cut the smaller white and colored pieces 3 7/8. Draw a line down the center point to point and sew on each side of the drawn line. Cut apart and you have two sets of half square triangles.
The larger pieces were cut 5 7/8. Same thing, draw a line from point to point and sew on each side of the line. Cut apart and you get two half square triangles.
The block is 9 inches. You can twirl your blocks anyway you want. Depending on the look you’re going for. I hope you enjoy making it.
