Project Design Team Wednesday ~ Un Tabouret

Stop the TRAIN… ( it has been very wet here) I KNOW…. it is not RBD GINGHAM, but it is does have DOTS and some CHEVRON …both RBD classics…
I completely ran out of yellow GINGHAM, I know, I know… but there is some coming any day now and as soon as it arrives I will add a gingham ruffle all around my Tabouret..translated to a low footstool.
Being so little, I hate my feet dangling from my chairs… so I always have a TABOURET in almost every room of our home… This one will go in my sewing studio where I have a lovely chair to hand sew. What you will enjoy about this tut is there is very little sewing… just a few extra tools.
Depending on the size of your stool, less than 1 yard of fabric. I chose RBD newest collection of Quilted Cotton..
Some necessary TOOLS for this project.
Normally, I would be layering my fabrics and batting to make a great cover for my stools but now that RBD has this wonderful quilted cottonwe just skip over that whole step…
What you will NEED!
This project requires 1- 20 inch square of Quilted Cotton.
some black 12 wt aurifil thread
some staples
1 fat quarter piece of chevron
1 14 inch x 8 inch piece of light weight fusible from Pellon
3 inch x 2 inch piece for inner bow
you will need some kind of stool mine is 16 x 16
I did not remove the fabric that was on it….as adding to it will just make it less resistant to wear and tear. It will also make it pouffier ….
Cut at least 4 inches more than you will need so you will have enough to turn under and staple on the bottom.
The other side of the dots is chevron by the way…. Now you will flip your stool, and turn under all sides and staple towards edge….
Now thread your curved needle, you will doing some sewing now…
Using a curved needle is much easier than a straight especially if you are doing any upholstery sewing…I just sewed the corners down and fold in the edge towards the leg.  Repeat on all 4 sides of course… this is what it will look like…
Now it needs a bow! yes? A BOW that will have some BODY.  You will need 1 fat quarter of chevron or fabric of your choice.
Fold towards center and press… You will be stitching hems – first right and left ends… then you take the center piece turn so right sides are together and sew up that seam, 1/2 inch.
Fold into a tube, and sew up that seam…. You will end up with this – sew up center seams and turn right sides out. ( after you add fusible interfacing)
cut your light wt fusible interfacing….only one side…
The fusible interfacing gives it body and makes it easier to fold like this…
Now you are ready to sew it to your stool.
Yes I am happy that I was able to get this done, as I have an accompanied project to showcase next week for RBD Quilted Cotton Blog hop… so yes there is another Project that I did make already with RBD newest Quilted Cotton..
Thanks for popping in…. Thanks to RBD for keeping us in our sewing rooms…!
