Hey my quilty friends, it’s Ingrid here from Joe June and Mae.
Today I want to talk about a special relationship. The relationship between quilters and cats.
Is it just me, or does it seem like every quilter has a cat? I see photos of quilts and cats all the time and everywhere.
Whether it’s on social media or in quilt books, cats seem to be the quilters pet.
It’s true, there is something cozy about cats and quilts. Maybe it’s the soft fur against the soft fabric?
Or how we love to curl up in a quilt when we need comfort and rest. This is very similar to what cats do, when they
come in after an active night outside, they curl up somewhere and love to sleep all day, if possible right?
I know some have dogs too, of course, or any other animal, but there seems to be a special connection between our
furry cat friends and quilters.
This adorable fabric series, designed by Shawn Wallace called ‘Cat’s Meow’ spoke to my ‘cat-mama-heart’.
It doesn’t only feature super cute cats in all sorts of surroundings, but also some tonal small scale prints, such as
yarn balls, paws and geometrical designs.
This inspired me to three little cat themed quilt blocks.
These quilt blocks are very versatile and as usual the quilt block patterns come in an assortment of different sizes
each.
And while these quilt blocks are great for all sorts of projects, even a full-on quilt, I decided to make something
special for our soft furry friends.
A quilted cat bed.
Now if this isn’t a must for every quilter with a cat, then I don’t know what is, haha.
You will find the free pattern for this adorable cat bed and a full step by step tutorial on my blog over at
I find the sleeping cat quilt block pattern couldn’t be more perfect for a cats sleeping place, right?
The prints in this fabric series are perfect for small fabric squares so you can totally go fussy cutting crazy if you
wish.
It was really hard for me to decide which parts of the prints to use, since one is cuter than the next.
As you can see my No 1 model claimed his cat bed right away, and I think he looks extremely happy doing so, don’t
you agree?
