Hey! It’s Amanda from Jedi Craft Girl here! I love hanging out on the Penny Rose Blog! I love all things vintage so of course I love 30’s reproduction fabrics! This line is called Hope Chest II from Penny Rose Fabrics. I love the vintage vibe of these fabrics. I am happy to live in the modern age where we can use rotary cutters & sewing machines! You can totally make this quilt in a day!!

The idea for this quilt comes from this old quilt I have. It is pieced and quilted totally by hand. Me and Mufasa love it!! The blocks are much smaller but it is a traditional bowtie quilt pattern.

All you need to make this throw size quilt is a 10″ stacker, 2 yards black swiss dot, 1/2 yard for the triangles, plus backing, batting, and binding.

This quilt is made up of only 1 block – a “Bowtie” Block. Look up bowtie quilts on Pinterest and there are a million different versions!

Begin by unstacking the 10″ stacker and select 24 of your favorite pieces. You will get 2 bowtie blocks from each 10″ square. Cut the 10″ square into (4) 5″ squares.

Press seams open to reduce bulk. Place the two units right sides together, pinning at seam. Sew. Press seams open.

This block totally changes if you change the color of the triangles. Traditional bowtie blocks have the “bow tie” all the same fabric. You will need to make 48 of these blocks. Once they are all constructed, lay them out. Sew the blocks together in rows, pressing after. Sew the rows together and press. Quilt and bind. You will need 3.5 yards of backing and 1/2 yard for binding.
