Imagine – FPP Zipper Wet Bags for the Beach!

Hey there, it’s Ingrid here from Joe June and Mae.

I am super excited and proud that I got to work with Kristy Lea’s @quietplay new fabric line ‘Imagine’ for Riley Blake Designs. This fabric series is a true rainbow of colors and prints. It is full of summer vibes and puts you instantly in good mood, don’t you think? I love Kristys work, her patterns and fabric series are just a spark of joy. I am so happy to show you what I made with these super fun and colorful prints.

Imagine is the perfect fabric series to start dreaming. Start dreaming about what makes you happy.

I always loved working in different countries when I was still in the fashion industry. We had fairs and buying trips, production travels and much more, so working abroad was happening all the time. And it was something I truly enjoyed.

When I started my quilting business three and a half years ago, I was working from my home studio most of the time. Not only did Covid restrict travel, but my business seamed to be keeping me put in one place as well. I missed working abroad so much….

So I started to imagine 🙂 how and where I could work away from home.

I do not like hotels, and love renting my own place. Even when we travel as a family we barely stay at hotels. Our own place gives us the freedom to live at our own terms.

I checked the internet and found a beautiful little place in the south of France… which I rented for myself. I started doing this the first time in 2021 and it was a really beautiful experience. I can highly recommend it, even if it’s just for a few days.

Being by myself gives me the time to really think and create. I packed all my stuff including my sewing machine and went on a road trip through Germany, Switzerland, Italy and finally arrived in the south of France.

I moved into my tiny house, where I stayed a couple of weeks and started to get creative. This is where I made these fun wet pouches with my favorite beach patterns.

I love wet pouches. They are the best thing when going to the beach. Your wet swimwear goes into the pouch and your beach bag and most importantly your book stays dry. Don’t you hate it when the edges of your book curl up, because you had wet stuff all over your beach bag?

This #twopiecepouch pattern is a design collaboration between my dear friend Natalie from @sewhungryhippie and me. She created the bag pattern and I added the paper pieced pattern. I think it’s a perfect blend.

The pouch pattern is really easy to make. It’s a beginner friendly pattern, and I will show you several different versions here with clear and colored vinyl. Natalie has all sorts of tips and tricks on her blog on how to sew vinyl and the best one is using a teflon sewing machine foot. A very small investment that will make your vinyl sewing journey so much easier.

Here is a colored vinyl version of the bikini/ wet bag. This bag is also perfect for your sun screen lotion or other beach items that might spill into your beach bag.

I made a whole bunch of these bags for my friends as gifts for this summer. I mean seriously who doesn’t need one of these, right?

Now let me know, which one is your favorite?
