This is Julia from Bayhill Studio, here today sharing a fun and easy quilt featuring fabric from the Nature’s Window collection by Greg & Company. I am always dreaming up new border ideas for panel quilts, and this Around the Corner Border is my latest fav!
I fell in love with the Bison fabric panel from the Nature’s Window collection. It brought back fun memories of a high school trip to Catalina Island, which you can read more about on my BLOG. I really wasn’t sure how I wanted to tackle the border with this quilt — I didn’t want to create anything too busy or distracting because the artwork is stunning, but I also didn’t want to call it in.
Then suddenly I found myself cutting bunches of thin 1 1/2″ strips, and this simple strip border idea was born! The strips are cut from a beautiful variety of Riley Blake Confetti Cottons. The combination of colors is absolutely dreamy, creating a sort of dusky sunset vibe.
I sewed all of the strips together at 45 degree angles, the same way I make long binding strips. The were assembled in color groupings, but in random order within those groupings. I love how the colors play together, and how the angles create a sort of warm southwestern look. It was so satisfying to watch this come together!
